Adhesive Patches Are Great for Promotion

Adhesive patches are extremely suitable to promote products for you to recommend to your clients. It will encourage your clients to stick the patches on their clothes or furniture, which will spread the reputation of your company. The benefit of adhesive patches is your clients can sew the patches on the clothes as a souvenir even after the adhesive wears off.

Use Custom Adhesive Patches for Marketing at Events

One of the most common uses for adhesive patches is at meetings and conferences. Attendees can wear the patches as instant branding or give them away, and as they move around, the patches become a walking billboard for your company. They are just as useful at outdoor events and tournaments. If you are attending a golf tournament or event, and you are hoping everyone will know about your company, you just need to stick the patches on your shirts or hats. Adhesive patches are also suitable for family gatherings or birthday parties.

When planning your design, think about where the patch will be used. How to Apply Adhesive Patches

Most adhesive backings fall into two types: heat-activated backings that bond when pressed with an iron or heat press, and peel-and-stick backings made for short-term use. Check with our team about which backing your patches will have, since the application differs slightly. These general steps help most adhesive patches hold well:

  1. Prep the surface: wash new garments first so fabric finishes don’t block the adhesive, and make sure the area is clean and completely dry.
  2. Check the placement: lay the item flat and position the patch before you press, especially if it needs to line up with other logos.
  3. Press firmly and evenly: for heat-activated backings, cover the patch with a pressing cloth and apply steady pressure; for peel-and-stick patches, smooth from the center out.
  4. Let it set: give the patch time to cool and bond completely before you wear, flex or wash the item.

After the first few washes, check the edges. If a corner starts to lift, press it again or tack it down with a few stitches.

Adhesive, Sew-On or Velcro: Which Backing Fits?

Each backing has its strengths, and the right one depends on how long the patch needs to stay put and how often the item will be washed.

  • Adhesive: the fastest option, with no sewing required. Ideal for giveaways, events and party favors, or for decorating bags and other non-clothing items.
  • Sew-on: the most permanent choice for uniforms and workwear that go through the wash often. Here’s why embroidered patches hold up wash after wash.
  • Velcro: best when patches need to come off or be swapped, as with tactical gear and team uniforms. Learn more about our custom velcro patches.

You can also combine methods. An adhesive backing makes it easy to test a placement, and a few stitches around the edge make the patch permanent later. Not sure which to pick? Tell us how the patches will be used and we’ll point you in the right direction.

Adhesive Patches or DTF Transfers?

Both can be applied without sewing, but they create very different results. An adhesive patch adds a raised, textured badge that works on almost any surface, while full-color DTF transfers bond to the fabric as a thin, flexible print with a soft-touch finish, perfect for detailed, colorful artwork on shirts and hoodies. DTF transfers press at about 260–300°F for 10–15 seconds, and our guide on how to apply DTF transfers walks through every step. If you’re ordering both, many customers use adhesive patches on hats and bags and DTF transfers on the matching tees.

Adhesive Patch FAQs

Are adhesive patches permanent?

Adhesive patches hold well for everyday use, but the bond can weaken over time on clothing that is washed often. For a permanent hold, add a few stitches around the edge.

Can I wash a garment with an adhesive patch on it?

Yes, with a little care. Turn the garment inside out, wash it in cold water on a gentle cycle and air dry, since hot water and high dryer heat can loosen the adhesive.

What surfaces work best for adhesive patches?

Smooth, tightly woven fabrics such as cotton twill, denim and canvas give the strongest hold. Very stretchy, fuzzy or water-resistant surfaces are harder for adhesive to grip.

Can adhesive patches go on hats?

Yes. Adhesive patches work on many hats, though curved crowns take a little extra care to press evenly. For hats worn every day, a few stitches add extra security.
